Its a good thing, because you will need it!
First, the good points: (1) super lightweight aluminum top and legs (not joints - see below) make this about the lightest portable desk I have seen - so light that you can tuck it under your arm when folded, (2) the 3 leg segments are marked at each joint with the angle at which the joint is set, so you can dial in the opposite leg segments to the same angle, (3) lifetime warranty (yet to be tested, see below).
Now, the bad:
(a) The joints are plastic - and very low grade plastic at that. They have teeth (also plastic) that allow setting of discrete "angles" pretty easily, but the cheap plastic construction is concerning. The desk comes with an explicit warning insert not to place objects heavier than 15 pounds due to the possibility of breaking the plastic joints, and this is excellent advice! Versatile but a little flimsy, July 20, 2010 This review is from: LapWorks "Wizard" Aluminum Desk Stand - New Super Strong Polycarbonate Hinges- Use Anywhere With LIFETIME WARRANTY (Electronics) The Wizard desk came as pictured. Its three articulating legs allow me to position it perfectly when sitting on the sofa (over my lap or as a desk tray) and sitting/laying in bed. The aluminum tray acts as a great heat sink, which allows the laptop to run cooler and more efficiently. And because the laptop never rests on my thighs anymore, no more hot thighs! The plastic joints on the legs seem prone to an early grave, so any other heavy-weighted object in excess of its weight limit will break it, such as 5+ thick textbooks. ummmm, it's a LAPTOP desk. I'm not a big fan of the auto-locking joints; you have to keep the button pressed in as you position the legs, so it's awkward to adjust. The old version had manually locking buttons: press button in, adjust legs, release button to lock in place. The legs creak a lot. yet I didn't feel the need to return it since I've mastered my 3 mostly used settings, which only takes a few seconds each time.
