Solution to a real problem, April 28, 2011 By This review is from: Belkin Conserve Switch, Energy-Saving Surge with Remote (Electronics) The problem being that most of today's electronics and the various chargers continue to consume small amounts of electricity when not in use and the waste can add up.
Brief evaluation

This surge protector allows for up to 8 devices to be plugged in with sufficient room for the wider DC adapters to fit and it will protect them against power surges. What makes it 'special' is, of course, the remote control that will completely shut off all but 2 of the outlets so nothing, not even stand-by power is consumed. This is good because it saves some energy and I suspect that the devices for which the power was completely shut down are better protected in the event of a spike. With the remote on my desk, I found that I almost always remember to shut things down when I'm done.

Remote broke after 2 weeks, August 16, 2011 By Larry (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Belkin Conserve Switch, Energy-Saving Surge with Remote (Electronics) I was looking for something I could attach to my entertainment system, cable modem and wifi router and easily power all off to save power when not in use when I'm at work/sleeping/out of town and turn back on when I was home. I liked this product when I first got it, it did what it said it would do and the remote worked from anywhere in my condo.
However, 2 weeks in the remote would no longer send the signal to turn the unit off. I could manually turn it off and turn it back on with the remote, but that was it. However, since the power strip is placed in an area that's not easily accessible, the unit no longer served its purpose.
I've ordered a replacement through Amazon, I'll follow up after the new unit gets some use to see if this is a persistent problem.

We wanted a way to turn off the power drain when items were not in use. The remote capability of this unit seemed like just what we were looking for. The first one we bought initially seemed fine and so we bought the second one. When the second one arrived, the remote did not function at all. We did some trouble shooting and narrowed it down to the switch function just not happening. If the switch had made a good connection, everything would have worked. About that time, the first one's remote started behaving badly. The light on the switch was blinking as if a connection was constantly being made. Also, the switch started to feel a little spongy, like connections were not being firmly made.
While the surge protectors themselves may be fine, we bought these for the advertised functionality of the remote switch. We are an adult only house, no kids pushing the switches or playing with them. The switches... Read more
